Coldplay dispels rumors
Message boards have been aflutter since last night’s BRIT Awards when Coldplay frontman Chris Martin commented, “People are fed up with us and so are we. You won’t see us at one of these for many, many years. We mean it.”
Many have speculated this comment signals a hiatus for the band. Although the assumption isn’t a longshot, NME was able to contact Coldplay’s label and get to the bottom of the statement:
A spokesperson told NME.COM: “Coldplay are not quitting. They are on the road until July, when their 16-month ‘X&Y’ World Tour ends in Japan. They will then continue working on new material.”
Coldplay’s appeal evaporated for me a long, long time ago. I was actually sort of interested to hear they might be taking a break. It significantly increased the possibility that their next album wouldn’t be crap. So much for that.

I agree with you - first album was/ is my favorite. Frankly, I’ve taken a break from Coldplay but, Spiders can still be heard on a particularly blue day (as well as Miles Davis’ Blue N Green).
