Things to do: NOLA
I know a lot of you will be wandering the streets tonight, looking for something to do. There are a couple of decent choices. I must issue a warning, however. If you’re headed back to the west bank, expect traffic to be ridiculous all night. NOPD is closing all of the I-10 entrances near the GNO. Including the St. Charles one. They’re retarded, so be prepared. Anyway, these are the options for the next two days as I see them:
Monday
Quintron and Miss Pussycat at One Eyed Jack’s -
“Along with his muse Miss Pussycat,” writes Liam Colle of PopMatters, “Quintron churns out kick-ass grooves that are something like the crunk of the underground rock ‘n’ soul scene.” It’s a fair assessment if I’ve ever seen one. I expect this show to be packed, so if you’re agoraphobic I’d suggest trying something else.

I’m giving this show a half recommendation. I’ve only heard a handful of tracks from Bobo and I’ve liked them all. Nevertheless, I don’t think this will really be the type of event most people are looking for this evening. If you’re looking to crank it down a notch tonight this is for you. He’s sort of like a mellower version of The National If you’re like the other zillion people in the city right now, you’d probably be happier with one of the other recommendations. I really sort of wish this would have been during a more appropriate weekend, because I’d like to check it out.
Morning 40 Federation at Vaughn’s -
The boys from Morning 40 work harder during Mardi Gras than any other time of the year, playing shows pretty much nightly for the duration of Carnival season. They’re a sure bet in a pinch.
Tuesday
New Orleans Klezmer Allstars at d.b.a. -
I love me some klezmer. And the Allstars can drop the Jewish beats with the best of ‘um. This is show starts at 3PM, so you can still be home in time to catch House and start sleeping off that drunk you’ve been nurturing for the past week.
