Bonnaroo adds two

Tennessee mega-festival Bonnaroo has added two Les Claypool acts to their already extensive lineup. Claypool will perform with hippy idol Trey Anastasio in their band Oysterhead. Additionally, Claypool will perform another set with his personal band.
These acts will compliment a lineup that includes Radiohead, Beck, Elvis Costello, Tom Petty, Andrew Bird, Death Cab for […]

Asthmatic Kitty releases compilation

Indie label Asthmatic Kitty has released a compilation album entitled “Mews Too,” a sequel to their 2001 compilation “To Spirit Back the Mews.” The 24-track disc features songs from Sufjan Stevens, Half-handed Cloud, Liz Janes, Castanets, Bunky, Danielson, Royal City, Denison Witmer, Jim Guthrie and Steven Lambke.

Islands sail tonight

“I woke up thirsty on an island in the sea,” begins the last track on the Unicorns’ 2003 “Who Will Cut Our Hair When We’re Gone.” Given the narrative cohesion of the Unicorns, I’ve often wondered if that ending was a precursor to the Islands, the band comprised of former unicorns. Things to do: NYC

Alright, this week I have some concise directions for you guys. You have fewer options than last week, but that makes my job a lot easier. Plus, you don’t have to debate what you want to go to:
Friday
Charlie Hunter Trio @ the Jazz Standard
- New Orleans local and Blue Note recording artist plays an eight […]

Things to do: NOLA

There are a few solid options for going out this weekend. Nothing spectacular, mind you, but better than sitting at home watching your dog drag its butt across the carpet:
Friday
Egg Yolk Jubilee @ DBA
- I’ve only seen these guys once. I know, I’m a failure at life. They play jazz and rock and had […]

Coldplay dispels rumors

Message boards have been aflutter since last night’s BRIT Awards when Coldplay frontman Chris Martin commented, “People are fed up with us and so are we. You won’t see us at one of these for many, many years. We mean it.”
Many have speculated this comment signals a hiatus for the band. Although the assumption […]

Jazz Fest 2006 announces lineup

The lineup for the 2006 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival was announced today. This 37th installment of the festival will, as usual, feature performers from around the world. I’m a little disappointed with how typical the lineup is. Due to the situation with New Orleans’ ressurection, it was my expectation that there would be […]

TV on the Radio to play Baton Rouge

Pitchfork reports that TV on the Radio will embark on a brief tour this spring. The excursion will begin and end in the UK, but the heart of the tour will be through the states. It features many of haunts typical to US tours, such as Austin and San Fran. But also, much to my […]

RIP Dragon’s Den?

According to LiveNewOrleans.com Cafe Siam and the Dragon’s Den have been served an eviction notice. It’s a shame, because Siam cooked up some of the best Thai food in the city and the Den was definitely one of our most distinct venues.
I’ll always remember climbing up those treacherous stairs, wondering what flavor of performer […]

Sigur Ros adds dates abroad

Sigur Ros has added some foreign dates to their already extensive summer tour. The new dates stand as further support for their very excellent album Takk…, released last year. Good luck getting tickets as most of the dates are already sold out and Sigur Ros on ebay is notoriously expensive:

usa
