Sufjan Stevens joins the New Pantheon
Sufjan Stevens was awarded today the first ever New Pantheon Music Award. This latest bit of recognition further solidifies something I said from the instant I heard Illinois way back in February 2005: “Sufjan Stevens is a god.”
It wasn’t much of a stretch of anything. Illinois is without a doubt the best album of 2005. Though Andrew Bird’s Andrew Bird & the Mysterious Production of Eggs takes the honor of my favorite album of the year, I can’t deny that Illinois is the better work.
Anyway, congrats to Sufjan and his band of Illinoisemakers.
