The Eagles of Death Metal - Death by Sexy
Strangely, The Eagles of Death Metal don’t sound anything like The Eagles or Death Metal. Instead they exude a distinct taste of rockabilly glam-rock. The music is over-the-top with pulsing rhythms, silly harmonies, and off-the-cuff guitar riffs. And considering the band’s sardonic name, this wacky self-indulgence is clearly deliberate.
The laid back nature of the band shines through in the minimalist approach of the songs. It is obvious the Eagles of Death Metal exist simply to rock out and have a good time, which I suppose, is what rock n’ roll is all about. The band displays a unique sound that can be described as sarcastic party rock, or maybe Chuck Berry meeting Led Zeppelin and Poison in a three-car pile up. Unfortunately, they never really deviate from this sound. My major complaint with the album is its redundancy–the album tends to feel like its on repeat.
But considering the quality, I suppose the problem isn’t debilitating, just prevents deeper repeat listens. The album is fun and at times quite goofy. You can’t go wrong with any of these songs, but one must not expect any serious high-brow endeavor here—it is little more than redundant garage rock lunacy.

I recently discovered Eagles of Death Metal. QotSA is one of my favorite bands, so, naturally, I had to give Eagles a while. While I like Death by Sexy, I like Peace, Love, and Death Metal more. Already Died is my favorite singles from PL&DM, but it was a close, close call.
