Yeah Yeah Yeahs show Seattle their bones

Karen O has stage presence but lacks personability. The absence of any niceness on stage is most of her presence, though. She’s not there to be thankful that you’re there to see her and her band play. She’s not there to be your friend. She’s on stage to howl into the mic and melt your face off. And that’s what she does.
Last night Yeah Yeah Yeahs played to a sold out crowd at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre. There was no talking and no introductions. They took the stage and they played. During song transitions, Karen O would strike frozen poses or spew water from her mouth like a dragon of rock and roll. It was only at the end of the main set and the encore that any thanks were given to the crowd. And everyone in attendance ate it up.
This is something that’s missing from rock these days. Artists who have a persona on stage that doesn’t falter. Artists who just come out and rock, not spending time to talk to the audience. Not wanting to know how everyone is doing. Not caring if they’re having a good time. They make sure you’re having a good time by doing what you came to see them do.
Rock needs more bands with this kind of balls and it really doesn’t matter if the lead singer doesn’t have any.
