Red Hot Chili Peppers ripping off Tom Petty
Here’s some Friday night entertainment for all of you guys. Danny Gaffney, a DJ in Delaware, is claiming that the new Red Hot Chili Peppers single “Dani California” plagiarizes Tom Petty’s classic “Mary Jane’s Last Dance.” According to him: “The chord progression, the melody, the tempo, the key, the lyrical theme… they’re identical.”
To prove his point, he’s uploaded an mp3 onto his website that splices the two songs next to each other. It’s actually impossible to tell which one is which. At the end he plays both songs on top of each other and they overlap seamlessly. Check it out here. Enjoy.
