The Pineapple Thief to play Rites of Spring

Progressive rockers The Pineapple Thief will cross the pond to play the Rites of Spring Festival. The event will take place in Phoenixville, PA on the last weekend of April–which means it’s at the same time as Coachella; which means I won’t be there. It’s unfortunate though, because I believe The Pineapple Thief to be […]

Pitchfork Music Festival shapes up

Indie web Mecca, Pitchfork announced recently that their 2006 music festival would be held July 29 - 30 in Chicago’s Union Park. They’ve been announcing performers gradually over the last several days and today they made the impressive addition of the Silver Jews and Man Man. They will play alongside Aesop Rock, Spoon, Yo La […]

Bruce Springsteen to play Jazz Fest 2006

Prior to the release of the 2006 Jazz Fest lineup, I was excited about the event. I haven’t been in years because the artists are usually yawn-inspiring. Unfortunately they left my anticipations unfulfilled when they issued such a typical lineup for this landmark event. I had already written Jazz Fest 2006 off as a bust […]

Flaming Lips single released

I missed this yesterday. Sorry. I’m a slacker. I know. Anyway, The Flaming Lips have released “The W.A.N.D.” the first single from their forthcoming At War With the Mystics. The full album is due out April 4 in the states.
The album has been circulating on the web for about a month now and reviews […]

03-18 Austin, TX - Positively Fourth […]

Bonnaroo adds Sonic Youth

The Tennessee hippy fest announced today the addition of four more artists to its lineup. The most notable of which is Sonic Youth. Although they aren’t very youthful these days, in 2004 they received widescale positive reviews for Sonic Nurse. Also added were Common, Matt Costa and Tortured Soul.
The festival has become something […]

Piano Magic to headline Lovely Festival

Piano Magic will be headlining the Rhaaa Lovely Festival in Fernelmont, Belgium on April 8. Also on the bill are avant-rockers Deerhoof, whose The Runners Four was one of the finest albums released last year.
Piano Magic are a group who defies classification for me. They have a dark almost haunting sound that is completely addictive […]

Tool album finds name

Toolband.com was updated this morning with an interesting bit of information about the new album. The site states:
JUST IN CASE YOU’RE INTERESTED…
The artwork for the upcoming Tool album is going to the separators/printers today, therefore it will eventually be leaked out that the name of the album is (drum roll…….) ‘ 10,000 days […]

Radiohead finish new track

NME is reporting that Radiohead have finished another track for their seventh album. The track is called ‘Bodysnatchers,’ and knowing what much of the band’s activity has involved lately, I expect it to be something political. The forthcoming release is expected to hit shelves sometime in late spring or early summer.
The band is, as […]

Madonna to play Coachella

The Coachella website has been updated with yet another artist addition. Pop legend Madonna is the latest artist to be added to a lineup that is already epic. Their website issued this statement:
Coachella 2006 Official Line Up - UPDATED AGAIN
The addition of Madonna in the Sahara “dance tent” has sparked a lot of talk, […]
